A Very Special Day

So coming up very shortly in Somerville there's going to be this huge musical performance that'll involve traffic being diverted for miles around and thousands of people jamming the streets.

No no, besides U2. This Sunday the Ras na hEireann, the annual St. Patrick's Day roadrace, is going to take place. But before it happens, the organizer is going to ask all 4000+ people there to honor the memory of his recently-departed uncle by singing 'Danny Boy'.

4000 people.

I've taken a very small informal poll here at work, and so far no one (including my Irish boss) can remember more than the first line and half of the second one. Not that this will stop anyone on Sunday. Oh no no, I don't think this will slow anyone down at all.

Intercon Anecdote

One of the things about wearing a Fozzie Bear costume is that it's very hard to NOT tell jokes. And, well, the next door neighbors of the "Muppet Purgatory" game were the cavemen playing "In Og, No One Can Hear You Scream (Technically, That's a Lie)". And there were a few of them standing around outside the door in their pelts. And almost before I knew it I was walking right up to them, and saying "Last week I went to a wedding of two TV antennas! The ceremony was dull, but the reception was GREAT! Wokka-wokka!"

And they laughed! And as I walked away, I heard one caveman say, "What 'tv antenna'?", and the next one say "What 'wedding'??"

Good times.

My FestEvil schedule

For the four or five of you who might be interested, or who might be considering going to Brandeis's Festival of LARPs next month (more info is over at http://festevil.brandeislarp.com/events/52 , cough cough nudge nudge), here's what I've signed up for:

Friday:
An Evening With Clarence

Saturday:
A Fire On High
A Midsummer Night and the Livin' Is Easy
Lifeline
Shebopaleileigh (a LARP about an improv troupe struggling with a college audience?! I'M SO THERE)

Sunday:
Call Batman! Call Superman! Call ANYONE!
GM Space

I'm a little sad that I didn't get into Oz (I logged in 13 minutes after signups began, and it was full and had a 12-person waitlist), and that Shebop is the same time as the League of Extraordinary Hogwarts Students, but overall I'm quite pleased with how things worked out.
