It was, sort of the dry blast of heat you get when you open an oven door. (Which I actually like a lot better than the humid heat where your sweat soaks into your clothes.) The group I was with would mostly stay in the area with trees and shade, and make little forays into the canyon trails once we'd drunk enough water and felt strong enough.
