(no subject)

Whoo. Burnt out, overtired, and my throat is sore from shouting yesterday (for folks who don't know me well, this is a very rare thing).

It was a great weekend (even the dentist visit that kicked it off was good, surprisingly), but...I'm reading Billy Connolly's biography, and this morning on the walk to work I came across this description that really rang a bell: "Our on-stage experiences turned out to be very similar: a period of intense fear and panic followed by a heady surge of adrenaline, then a highly enjoyable rush of endorphins and finally, if all went well, a a powerful sense of validation. The good feelings would last for a few hours after the show, but in the morning there would be a sense of loss, an uncomfortable phsyiological experience of our bodies still being over-pumped with adrenaline, and torturous regrets about imperfections the night before."

So that's where I'm at right now: still twitching a little, and just not quite able to stop thinking about all the things I should have done, or should have done better, or should have done faster. Which means it probably wouldn't be wise to post more about FestEvil until the chemicals have burned through my system.

That's a good description of the experience of performing.

But it's LARPing so we don't necessarily have to worry about that. As it's all about being both audience and performer - enjoying and worrying about the enjoyment of others.

Many I was with this weekend spoke highly of your talents and it was good to see you there.

It was good to see you there, too!

As for the other bit of your comment...see, it's worrying about the enjoyment of others that gets me into this headspace! I know it's partly just biochemical and in 6 hours or so I'll be able to remember the good things, but that doesn't change the fact that, to name just one example, I played Superman and never once interacted with Superboy! And not nearly enough with Lois Lane! How is that possible?!

Well, think of the Justice League Unlimited show and comic series....really...when you have that many heroes together, do they really all end up together all the time? No....you may have a Black Canary/Wildcat episode or a Speedy/Green Arrow issue but not always.

Heh. But that's not all your fault! In those cases, Superboy decided to turn into Sarcasm Man (which worked out just fine from where I was standing), and nobody actually bothered to menace Lois. In both cases, if Lex Luthor had pursued either of his plots with them (and he usually does with at least one), you'd have had plenty of reason to interact with 'em. :)

Clearly, I just have to write evil Jimmy Olsen into the game. ~_^

Oooo. "This looks like a job for...TURTLE BOY"? That could be really entertaining!

I experience this, too. My pre-show stage fright is intense and nearly crippling if I'm preforming memorized material (less so for script-in-hand or improv). Apparently it is very common for actors reaching middle-age to go through a brain chemistry change wherein they produce too much adrenaline. I'm looking for a medical solution to the problem, since my (former) therapist's advice of "Just don't be nervous" kinda sorta was made of EPIC fail.

Well I can't wait to read about it once the endorphins have had their way with you LOL :)

you know I get that too - post events - but or me its actually worse for boffer larps than for roleplay ones - I'm also having a problem lately where I'm not "going for it" as extremely as I used to - I'm not sure if I've learned restraint or if I've become more timid. Not sure I like either- but one sounds like maturity (ewwwww..) and the other like trauma.
