Okay, I've owed [livejournal.com profile] foresthouse this meme for a while:

1.Total volume of music files on my computer?
6.73GB...yay, music school!

2. The last CD I bought was?
Muppet Treasure Island!

3. Last song I listened to before writing this?
Pinetop Boogie Woogie - Albert Ammons

4. Song playing as I type this?
Up For the Down Stroke - Parliament

5. Five songs I listen to a lot or that mean a lot to me:
Oh, geez.

It's taken my Virgo self about an hour to narrow this down, and I know there are about 20 others I could easily add.
Your Mileage May Vary, of course.

1. This Must be the Place (Naive Melody) - Talking Heads
In high school the drama geeks would take the 90 minute drive each Friday night to the Portland, Me, movie theater. While most folks went to the Rocky Horror Picture Show, a few of us went next door for the midnight showing of 'Stop Making Sense'. Good times.
It helps that it's still one of the best declarations of love I've ever heard, too.

2. In the Name of the Father - Bono (off the soundtrack of the same name)
For years, I thought it played under the opening sequence of the movie where a kid playing air guitar on a Northern Ireland rooftop is mistaken for a sniper and an entire neighborhood quickly gets sucked in as all HELL breaks loose. It doesn't, but it's the musical parallel--a piece that just keeps building and building until your walls are shaking.

3. An Angel Looked Down - Jane Siberry
Jane is Canada's Bjork, basically, and this song is the closest she's come to giving us a peek inside her head.

4. Night and Day - Cole Porter
I first heard it on the 'Red Hot and Blue' benefit album for AIDS research; my first introduction to Cole Porter. (And the Pogues and Iggy Pop, come to think of it). It's such a chameleon of a song...you can sing it as someone totally lovestruck, as a creepy stalker, or as a mourner by someone's grave and it keeps on working.

5. Hold Me, I'm Falling/Love and Marigolds - The Unknown, off the Monsoon Wedding soundtrack
For some reason, this song always makes me think of summer evenings in Charlottesville. with the sun setting and the humid air starting to cool down and my heart aching for one overdramatic reason or another.

6. Which 5 or more people are you passing this baton to & why?
Heh.
[livejournal.com profile] mummimamma, [livejournal.com profile] lolalovesu, [livejournal.com profile] pour_moi, [livejournal.com profile] trickofthedark, [livejournal.com profile] triplehdm, what songs are inside your fascinating heads?
