There are some ads up on bus stations and busses. They show folks who are models from the waist up...and molluscs of various sorts from the waist down.

Above them a sign reads "Warning: eating extraordinary seafood may have unexpected consequences".

They're promoting a seafood restaurant.

Let me ask this as calmly as I can...... WHO APPROVED THIS AD???!?!???!?!???!?W???T???F!??!?

(You'll have to imagine the Kermit-like arm flailing I just did.)

I mean, what the HELL sort of promotional idea is "Come to our restaurant! We'll turn you into snail-centaurs!" ?!??

Just asking.

They must have seen "Uzumaki," the deranged and wonderful Japanese horror movie about a town haunted by... spirals. Yes, spirals. There were snail-centaurs climbing the school. Creepy and weird as hell. I don't think I'd advertise a restaurant that way, m'self.

Those ads have been around for a while. Far as I can tell, they're not meant to make sense...just to attract your eye. Which they do.

It's more like, "We'll turn you into seafood! And then eat you, too! BWAHAHAHA!"

I want to know who approved the two new dairy queen ads.
The first one is the one that implies the cartoon shrimp have just cannibalized their own children
The second is the one where the women gets a severe electric shock for drinking a Moolatte, but she keeps going for it anyway. It's actually very upsetting.

hey, it's better than the McD's ad, picturing a burger with the words, "I'd hit that" next to it...

Come on... burger sex?

A year or so ago there were ads near South Station for some new Tex-Mex-with-attitude (or at least enough attitude to please the suits) place opening soon, and the slogan was along the lines of "Don't drink the water." And I figured well, heck, any restaurant that practically promises dysentery can't be all that bad!

In my brain, that's a GREAT ad. If I liked seafood, that'd be the first place I'd go for it! I've always wanted to have squishy tentacles.

Remember, you live in New England, home of HP Lovecraft and birthplace of the Cthulu mythos. He has a wonderful tale of an entire fishing village turned into bipedal sealife, which apparently this company either is owned by or is using for their seafood stock.

Ah, those nutty Japanese. The same country that has given us a comic with a hero who keeps switching genders; a game show combining greivous bodily injury, abject humiliation, and wacky costumes; and the notion that ritual suicide was a privilege.

Ya gotta love 'em.

Sounds like something out of a bad '70's sci-fi movie.

What was the restaurant?

A burger ad actually said "I'd hit it"?

Holy Hell, that's... just.... "wow".

Attack of the Snail People....wait for it....

BWAHAHAH!

Oh man...reminds me of when I saw an ad for a sub shop here in Ohio called "Blimpy's."

I think those ad guys are on crack or something...

I think I saw that movie

There was a cheesy Lovecraft movie I saw on cable once where the hapless yuppies crash their boat and come to the village to find they all worship Dagon and that the main yuppie was destined to marry the leader's half-squid daughter...

yeah... I know they have since pulled it... but it ran for a good few weeks before anyone said, "Um... guys? Do you know what that says?"

Great Scott, Man, You tell us this and you give us no *PICTURES?*

PICtures. I desire pictures.

Must be easy to find the restaurant - just follow the slime trails.

Clearly, advertisers are getting in early on the massive potential of marketing to the furry community. :)

If your idea of seafood is that it's furry, I'm /not/ eating out with you any time soon.

Not that we had plans, but you know. There are limits. I like fur, I like seafood. And yet....

I skimmed this post first time through, and missed the whole snail-centaur thing. I only saw this:

Above them a sign reads "Warning: eating extraordinary seafood may have unexpected consequences".

... and thought, "Yes, eating pufferfish CAN kill you. What about it?"

"Furry" encompasses all manner of creatures, including those with feathers, scales and shells.

This whole entry is making me crave seafood.

Ah, but what you don't realize is that it isn't that eating their seafood will turn you part mollusc! The grizzly truth is that really, the seafood you're eating is part supermodel, and they brutally chop that half off before serving it to you.

If you're referring to my icon, yes. I loved the movie, and the pictures I downloaded as icons were perfect for what I wanted for this journal. The tv series wasn't as good for me, but it had good moments

I agree....I have the movie on DVD at home, and it's still one of my favorite examples of good anime.

I tried watching the series once...after the initial "WTF?" reaction I gave up on that one.
