May. 30th, 2003 11:17 amSketch comedy group last night, which involved actually getting a theme and writing several sketches from the ground up (or at least the outline and beats). This collaboration thing...I think I like it!
I'm liking this group more and more. I *have* to introduce Joy to D...they seem to have a lot of the same interests. (And they both like talking about certain anatomical things that make me almost pass out).
Now if only I can force my brain to think up stage sketches, instead of things that would only work on video. I'm pretty pleased with the Matrix parody I worked on yesterday, especially the little Captain Kangaroo shoutout I stuck in...but, woo, writing physical humor is so much harder for me than writing dialogue. I've been watching old 'I Love Lucy' episodes and trying to imagine what they looked like on paper, and it's just baffling, sometimes.

Date: 2003-05-31 04:30 am (UTC)I write shit for dialogue,.. well maybe not that bad,.. but it is a major pain for me.
Monologue I can write well,.. and physical comedy I can write well,.. but dialogue I don't do.
WHich is goign to make this movie very very speedy.
But you have top figure most of what lucy did she came up with in rehersal,.. so much of physical comedy ends up working that way.
SOme of the rules we go by is,.. pain is funny,.. the downtordden becoming more so despite their best efforts is funny,.. men in lengire is funny and anal rape is funny.
In fact, and I'm deadly serious here, in the year and seven months i Have been in pow I don't think we have had a single show in which someone didn't get anally violated.
When someone repeatedly fucks up but keeps at it with the same earnest determination,.. it's adoreable,.. and the humor comes form there.
Everythign funy comes from pain,.. physical comedy just has less steps of seperation between the pain and the funny.
Funny bones is a great filnm that deals with this well.
but surprise, juxtaposition, pathos and blind determination are all staples of good physical comedy,..
as is sexual innuendo.
Sorry blathering now,..
KK!
(btw did the captain kangaroo reference have to do with peopel dodging ping pong balls like they were bullets? Cause that's whatI 6thoguth of when you said that,.. and that sounded funny,.. ooh ping pong ball guns,.. yeah,.. oh and unexpected pies to the groin tush or face,.. big funny plus there!)
