Oh. My. God. That. Sucked So MUCH!

But today I'm operating on the principle of "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." So I will say nice things about what I went through.

*When, every half hour, the "organizer" took a break from flirting with girls thirty years younger than him, I'm sure the order he randomly barked out made sense in his mind. I'm also sure that, despite all the evidence to the contrary, he could organize having folks get wet in a rainstorm.

*It was very cute the way the Official Bodypainters huddled in a little circle passing around their high school yearbooks and giggling. It looked like an excellent yearbook. And it was adorable how they sat in a little circle painting each others' arms and ignoring the little kids who wanted designs done.

*While sidewalk chalk and magic markers aren't traditional bodypaint, they added, um, color. I'm sure that what I was told, that "they'll wash off sooner or later", is totally accurate.

*While the flyers didn't actually contain a schedule, or much useful information at all, it was indeed vitally important to hand them out. Without a flyer, how can it be a festival?

*When the person I was there to model and perform for told me the performance started at 11, it was silly to expect her to show up before 11:30. It was also silly, when she told me she'd get me costumed as soon as she put "a few more ribbons" on the other volunteer, to expect her to be done in less than 90 minutes while I stood around in the sun. Or to expect that she'd actually BROUGHT a costume for me. Silly, silly, silly.

*This event WAS a perfect fit for the snootiest street in Boston! All the yuppies who walked past with glares on their faces were smiling on the inside! The disapproving sniff is how they show their excitement, you see.

*I got so much out of this! I learned to appreciate Pastimes much more, I got to see [livejournal.com profile] lediva again, and...um....well, who needs more than two things?

Yet again, you have managed to describe a horrible experience in a painfully funny way.

Bri, I don't know how I've missed it all these years that you've been searching for a venue, but I think you may well be the next Dave Barry. And to think that we get to read you for free! What publication can you get a column in, do you think?

Since I slept too late to want to rush to get to the fest, I really appreciate your having posted a review. And to pour salt in the wound, let me add that you would have had a kick ass time had you come to the party last night. :)

Sorry you had such a crap time, but there is a bright side: Start working on refining your new stuff for Winterfest, bro. As you know, Pastimes shows actually have audiences a lot of the time, and the performers even occasionally do something to entertain them..! ;^)

Wow, it's sad that something that sounded like it could have had such wonderful potential went so very wrong.

Great post though. :)

I have to agree with callunav. I think your misadventures are some of the funniest things I've read.

Also, they tend to include detail that I need a notebook to remember. Outstanding.

Heh--it's just that the bad events in my life sear themselves into my memory like acid, is all. Ask me about my first grade Halloween costume. Go on, I dare you. ;)

*blush*

You know, it's odd how little I've thought about it? Venting with little anecdotes has always been my freetime activity, not related at all to the Writing I procrastinate and sweat over. (Case in point: weekend progress on comic book=1.5 pages. And this was a GOOD weekend.)

Hrm. I must think about this.
