Good Things

1) Lunch with [livejournal.com profile] empheliath and Jane-who-played-my-niece yesterday!! I'm liking this whole "lunch with other people" thang. It's a nice concept. Especially when the people you're eating with are funny and whip-smart.

2) Lost in Translation is a really really REALLY good movie, lonely and surreal and moving and intimate and romantic and funny and sad. It's a little distracting when it turns out that one of your friends looks like one of the characters in a movie (I'm lookin' at you, [livejournal.com profile] asciikitty), but at least it's a movie like this and not, oh, Jeepers Creepers.

3) I've gotten my first paid commission to make truffles!! The request is for an emphasis on slightly fruity ones, which dovetails nicely into thoughts I've been having about Chambourd and orange liqueurs.

It's timely, getting this right after watching a Food Channel profile on an "extreme truffle maker" out in Chicago. Some of her ideas won't get touched with a ten foot pole (wasabi and black sesame seeds??), but others---masala, mmm. And since my favorite food shop sells Belgian dark chocolate AND fresh spices, well, this is going to be fun.

Scarlett Johansson. Your eyes are different, but the cheekbones, mouth, hair, shape of your face, mannerisms, voice...it was a little disconcerting, to be honest.

So, had you already seen Lost in Translation when I was talking about it at lunch yesterday? Or was it my glowing review that made you see it? I agree, it was a fabulous movie...but you already knew I thought that.

You were the straw falling on the back of the heavily-laden camel. :) Deb had seen it and loved it, along with every movie reviewer I respect, PLUS it had Bill Murray, so I was bound to see it sooner or later...but it was you who convinced me to see it last night, as opposed to sometime in December.

Ahhhh, isn't Lost In Translation PERFECT?!?! I love it so, I have seen it thrice. I think I am going to go again soon, I am having withdrawl. You should get the soundtrack, it has a hidden track of Bill Murray doing the Roxy Music karaoke. Hah, I made it my cell phone voice mail.
