It's the first line of a first draft, but I kinda like it:

While the trouble'd actually started a week prior, I reckon my part of the tale begins when I walked up to the fake Tom Sawyer and popped him on the nose.

Love it. I came up with a line once, He slid through the water like a knife through butter, or a spoon through Jell-O. that I ended up using in my Bad Fiction contest.
