Okay, the dubiousness, it's back.

Here's the full text of the response I got to my query about Discworld auditions:

Any Noreascon member is welcome to dress up as a Discworld
character, particularly for First Night (Thursday Night of
Worldcon). If you and your friends have preferences, please
send them along.


This doesn't sound like the event they were talking about; this sounds like a costume party with (hopefully) a nice set.
