The third person I encounter at work gets in a little argument with me over that Passion movie. It's going to be that sort of day.

(For the record, the irresistable motion of his "The Romans were brutal; why are people so surprised by the violence?" met the unmovable force of my "Christ's uniqueness is because of his teachings, not his status as a victim of brutal violence, and anyhow, if I want to watch someone being tortured for two hours I'll watch Howard Dean on Meet the Press and save $10, $14 with popcorn.")

Time for a poll, people

Sweatpants with adjectives like "JUICY" in 200 pt. font across the tush:

A) A turn-on
B) A turn-off
C) Another sign that these are the Last Days
D) Something I'd wear
E) Something I wear right now
F) Something the folks in 2020 will mock our decade for

I haven't see Passion yet but I am concerned about the fact that, whether ppl liked the film or not, they all agree on how violent it was...to the extreme. That by itself is not enough to concern me but this is followed by news reports which say that there are teachers bringing school groups to see it.

Anyway in answer to your poll: B, C & if we make it F.

A) A turn-on (and funny)

Um. Yeah. In truth I really do find the rotating motion of words written on someone's pants utterly riveting. Slightly tacky, sort of like Captain Jack Sparrow's excessive eyeliner, but still effective. I like it best when the words are a nonsequitur that I have no chance of grokking. Bands names I've never heard of, say.

Tacit invitations to stare at people's bums = always good.

And only sometimes with an eye towards irony. :)

And only if I was a little more in shape. Right now I'm too juicy.

Oh, and on the other half of your post...I'm actually planning to see Passion. Why? Because I got so irritated at the people (read: Catholics) who bashed and criticized Dogma, but had never even seen the movie. I don't plan to like the movie. I do plan to criticize it. But to do that without feeling like a complete hypocrite, I must first see the movie.

I pick...
B and F
and on any given occasion, C.

however, i'd totally love to see someone mock those clothes by making pants with the words "ASS CHEEKS" on the butt and "BOOOOOOBS" across the chest of a shirt.
come on, that would be hilarious.

I totally agree. And, just so you know, I didn't mean all Catholics...I just meant that the ones who were complaining so vociferously about that movie were mainly Catholics. (I realized afterwards I may have inadvertantly offended...)

F-the end times already happened and I'm sure it turned *someone* on, if it's on the shelves.

I just would raise an eyebrow and examine the product suspiciously from the outside. (All I can think of are the vintage veggie boxes that featured idealized pictures of the contents to sell them)
Yeah, that's a pretty funny set of visuals. :)

C!!! And F.

And while I agree about where his uniqueness comes from... I think it's in seeing how badly he suffered FOR God and for us that makes it so important. Kinda like how people tend not to appreciate what others do for them until they realize how hard it was to do what they did... And then you appreciate them more for that. If that makes sense?

I'm afraid to see it. Not for the violence, not at all. I just never cry at movies, I make it a point never to, and I've heard it does exactly that...

1) Sweatpants with "Juicy" on them? Seriously? After laughing hysterically for a couple of minutes - B turn off and then a premature F.

2) The Passion? Oh, Horror. Why did he make them speak Aramaic and Latin? they didn't even speak Latin that far east. Violence is cool. And brings the message to attention. Yes, ironic.

oh no, no i wasn't offended. i just wanted to make the point that people need to chill the fuck out when it comes to... ANYTHING, really! ha! i mean, if i can be a god-loving catholic girl and like Dogma and other such things, I don't understand why anyone else can't either.
It's just a story! people don't have to agree with it... even to enjoy it. hah.

F, all the way.

I agree with your assessment, BTW. And as a Christian who believes that Christ's death and resurrection are what conquered death, I believe that of the two, the resurrection was the important link. Mel Gibson himself said it best (only problem is that it was in a different movie!): "Every man dies. Not every man really lives."

Interesting thing is, Kevin Smith is a practicing Catholic. And sheesh, Dogma is one of the most God-affirming movies I've ever seen. It's also one of my favorites; I own both the movie and my very own Buddy Christ.

I have a hard time understanding parents who let their kids wear some of the things they let them wear. Like a wanna go up and talk to them about it, kinda thing.

Well, yes. Who wouldn't?

I've seen your art before in my meandering around. It's really quite lovely, but I never had a proper opportunity to tell you / the artist so. And now I do! I particularly like the way you draw Snape. Maybe it's your fearlessness with The Nose. Maybe it's that he's got a bit of a Jewish look to him. ;) Hard to say.

At any rate, lovely!
