2003 words so far.

There are little candy wrappers up and down the sidewalk, making the street look like it was the sight of a G-rated Mardi Gras. Which is basically was--we had kids coming by for about an hour and a half, ranging from early teens to barely old enough to reach his pudgy little arm out of the stroller and grab a treat. And, like last year, we had one toddler so confused that she said "Fenk Hyu" and tried to give *me* her candy.

My Nano story this year seems to be about a papermancer (she got the short end of the stick when the magic was handed out) who gets caught up in The Great Race when it passes through her city, gets framed for murder, and has to clear her name and kick some righteous ass. So it's a chick lit/fantasy/mystery, so far.

Writing it in the first person seems to've been a good decision, and can I describe how fun it is coming up with Race teams? Lucrezia's Folly (think magically-enhanced Borgias) will be the obvious bad guys and Team Heterodyne will seem like our heroes/love interests, but I expect big things from the fundamentalists of Sacred Vessel. And I'm especially proud of Team Crone.
