"Hey! Want to meet the puppies?"
D and I were on our bikes on our way past the riverside park which is our route to work. Ostensibly. We'd already made a u-turn when we spotted the woman with the 6 golden labs-one mama, five puppies!- and her shout to us was like a french fry being waved at seagulls.
And that is how we spent twenty minutes puppy-sitting. Clever, CLEVER dog-owner!
The puppies were about seven weeks old, wriggly and full of energy and just starting teething. Two of them wanted to hide under cars in the parking lot and pounce on unsuspecting siblings and had to be wrangled and corralled; one wanted to play with her mom by tugging her ears; all five were teething and for some reason thought D's sneakers were the perfect chew toy. And when Mama Dog brought over a slobbery tennis ball and dropped it beside me, I swear to pasta she had a shocked expression when I picked it up and looked at her, a "You can see me??!?" face that made it pretty clear she hadn't had too much attention from her humans in the past couple of days.
I got to work with my shirt collar smelling a little bit like puppy drool.
SO GOOD.
