oakenguyLast night was ArtRages, Boston's annual performance art/rock & roll art party for Mobius.
Some of the things that stood out:
There was one roving performer who smelled *so* bad that I honestly wondered whether it was part of her performance. Like, "I am half-naked yet a clown; friendly yet amazingly stinky. Isn't that full of fun contradictions?"
Musicians who read this: if you had the choice between having no one dance when you perform, or having two people dance in a modern/contact improv style that's so bad and ungainly and awkward that everyone is just staring in horror, which would you prefer? (Hmm, maybe the question could have been phrased a little better).
The Dresden Dolls started playing just as I hit the depressive low part of my beer-drinking cycle, so I really really shouldn't try to make any objective judgements about the band. But, hey, it's my livejournal and I'll snark if I want to, snark if I want to:
Observation one: They're an SAT question in the making. "The Monkees are to the Beatles as the Dresden Dolls are to: a) Madonna, b) Kurt Weill, c) Tori Amos, d) little bits of a, b and c."
Observation two: With the exception of James Marsters, I am soooo done with Americans who talk with English accents.
Observation three: The smelly performer mentioned above? Stinkyclown? Is a good friend of theirs. The male performer in the band? Also smelled really really bad. Coincidence?
Need caffeine. Must write. Ugh.
