The overall health of the inhabitants of Mad Dog Maison seems to be improving dramatically. Deb's cold is nearly gone, the sciatica's responding to my combination of heat, ice, stretching, insomnia and whining, and maybe most importantly, our dog managed to go the entire night with only a *moderate* thirst, as opposed to the 'drain the waterbowl dry, then find the second bowl and drain that one, then hunt for moisture wherever it can be found, even if it means stealing water vapor directly from the sleeping humans' thirst that's manifested through the last week. It's been disturbing. Hopefully it was just a big miscalculation with the new brand of wet food we bought him, and now that we've switched back things'll be better.

Other things making me happy:

The cast let me use them as guinea pigs, and I now know just how long to let the liquid chocolate sit in the mold to make a good 'cup' to hold mousse. (The first two batches were too thin and shattered when I tried to get them out, very sad. It's also very sad that it didn't occur to me until literally right now that I could've tossed the shattered bits into the pot for re-melting instead of immediately eating them).

The play is coming along REALLY well; I got to watch several scenes this weekend that I hadn't been exposed to, and they're nifty. I also got to see my costume, which, well, SWANK! It's the closest I've ever come to looking like a Final Fantasy character.

And speaking of plays, I'm going out on Friday to see a version of Jack in the Beanstalk done commedia dell'arte style. Which pretty much guarantees that whether it rocks or sucks, it's still gonna be interesting.

The weather! Blooms are blooming, birds are making love in the yard, and I have a feeling that Steve's going to hatch out of their cocoons any day now. And after missing both monarch butterfly hatchings, I really really reeeeeeeeeeeallly want to see this one.

Also, I've gone three full hours without hearing or seeing the term 'feeding tube'! So it feels like I've won the lottery.

But enough about me. How're you today?

I'm fine, thanks. A bit tired, but that's nothing out of the ordinary.

No, no. I think there's a law against that.

It's the Wheelock Family Theatre! Here's their blurb:

Wheelock Family Theatre's madcap romp
The Beanstalk, the Giant, and Jack
Friday April 8 at 7:30pm, or Sat the 9th and Sun the 10th at 3:00pm

Written by Susan Kosoff and Tony Hancock,
Directed by James P. Byrne, with musical ditties by Jane Staab
The Beanstalk, the Giant, and Jack is the classic folktale told in the
broad, stylized, colorful manner of Commedia dell'arte; featuring the
amorous Dan Bolton, the treemendous Sarah Guyer Brown, that quack John
Davin, the bravado of Neil Gustafson, the mooooving Elbert Joseph, the miserly musings of Matthew Lazure, the avuncular Bill Mootos, the hysterical Yvonne Murphy, the instrumental Grace Napier, ze culinary charms of Gamalia Pharms, the imperious Jane Staab, that big, ol' baby J.H. Williston, and the hey nonny ho of Khalil Flemming as Master Jack!

I am boring today. Work work work, all day long, work work work while I sing that song...

Sorry, I am also insane today. Too much Corporations and Criminal Procedure.

I'm glad you and everyone are better.

And CHOCOLATE. Just the mention of chocolate makes me excited :) I would've eaten the broken parts too.

Ooooh, what is comedia d'arte?!

Oh, you in particular would love it! Commedia dell’arte is a form of theatre that arose in 15th century Italy. Commedia features stock characters, exaggerated masks, padded costumes, and a style of acting based on broad physical comedy. Its zany, no-holds-barred, “slapstick” style can still be found today in animated cartoons, situation comedies, the films of Charlie Chaplin, and professional wrestling.
