[livejournal.com profile] foresthouse tagged me as one of the 5 biggest dorks she knows for the dork meme! I'm flattered...I think.

The meme: List 5 reasons why you are a dork/geek. And make them good reasons. Justify them. Explain them. Be loud and proud about how big of a dork you are! Then pick the 5 biggest dorks you know and have them do the meme.

Oh, geez, where to start.

1. At the age of 11, I became the youngest member of the New England Tolkien Society. I took the name Bergil, that being the only human child mentioned by name in the LOTR, and immediately began bombarding the poor editor of the NETS newsletter with my fiction. God-AWFUL fiction. I finally wore him down enough that my story about, coincidentally enough, a 12-year-old Gondorian stumbling upon orcs and bravely killing them all got published. It was the first story to ever get...well, 'hate mail' is the wrong term, more like 'OMGWTF? mail'. Copies might still exist somewhere. I recommend burning them.

2. The first two cassettes I ever bought were Mr. Roboto by Styx, and Weird Al Yankovic in 3-D. I still have every lyric of each of these albums memorized.

3. At one point in my life, I have seriously considered getting a tattoo of a Fianna glyph. (Fianna are a tribe of werewolves from a roleplaying game, for folks not in the know. My username is taken from the Fianna character I played, so extra points there. And despite the fact that this character came back to life as an earring at one point, had several OMG forbidd3n! romances, and was about as authentically Irish as a bottle of teriyaki sauce, he was the least twinky of any character I'd played up to that point. Just ask me about Ice, my 17th/8th/23rd level fighter/thief/bard. Better yet, don't.)

4. Let's just take a look at my closet. From left to right there is: a boffer sword from NERO, a tiger suit, two of the pairs of tights I wear when performing at ren faires (I have four, total), a clown suit, Chicken-Dance Elmo, some Electroluminescent wire, and a photo of a cute bunny sitting on his hind legs with his eyes squinted shut.
4a. I got the photo as a thank you after helping a vendor load her stuff into the hotel for a sci-fi con.
4b. I cannot actually GET to any of the things in my closet because of all the comic books in the way.
4c. Sometimes Chicken-Dance Elmo goes off for no apparent reason and starts singing and dancing in the dark. SPOOKY.

5. I am physically unable to play a game of tag with Toby (my chihuahua) in the park without flapping my arms about and yelling "Yee yee yee yee yee!"

Another reason I'm a dork is that I thought about mentioning my various anime and SF addictions and decided they weren't dorky enough.

And now, who to tag, who to tag....hmm. [livejournal.com profile] malterre, [livejournal.com profile] ldyfyrefly, [livejournal.com profile] alyndria, [livejournal.com profile] huzzahuzzah, [livejournal.com profile] khep, you're up!

EDIT: Argh, I keep thinking of new things! I started trying to style my hair at the age of 4 to look just like Superman! I own a ukelele! I've named thugs from City of Heroes after annoying LJ trolls!

Hey now, Chicken Dance Elmo is D's so it can't be on your list. ;)

Stop! My aching spleen!

And umm...I own a ukulele too.

But for you it works!

However, I'm now picturing you playing it while wearing your Titania costume.

That's hot.

I've gotta call my director right now.

Actually, that might better explain why Bottom is hesitant at first about spending a night in Titania's bower...

There's this girl I met through friends. But before I met her, they gave me a warning.

"Yes, that giant tattoo on her left shoulder is the Black Fury glyph. She doesn't play the game, and doesn't know a whole lot about Black Furies. She just saw it and thought it was cool and the next thing we knew she had it tattooed on her arm."

When I met her, I was surprised - not just because they told the truth, but because the glyph was really big, almost from her shoulder to her elbow.

To this day, that entire situation confuses me.

I also have a friend who, more purposefully, tattooed "Homid Glasswalker Ahroun" on his chest in firey red glyphs.

When I was a Werewolf GM, I thought about it a lot. Now I'm sorta glad I didn't, because my relationship with the game sank downhill fast once I moved to DC.

...and I know of someone (never actually met her) who has the BSD glyph tatooed on her ankle...

...and yes, she knew *exactly* what it was when she did it. She just thought it was a cool glyph. :)

The Homid Glasswalker Ahroun tattoo, though...wow.

I want to say I know this person, too. I seem to remember knowing a girl with a BSD tat on her ankle...

I'm impressed! I merely hover on the edge of 'dork' with my approx. 250 comic book collection and comic book convention experience (among other things). Elfquest anyone?

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHhhhgggh..!

But I confess I still like Wendy Pini's artwork<../i>

Richard Pini is a fan of the indie movies I make. I don't mean to brag, but it's rare that I can actually use that as a point of "bragging", since he's fairly small bait. However, he liked it a LOT. Wrote to me over and over about how he liked it.

Is the original storyline available in color anymore? I got books 1, 2, and 4 when they were first put out in book format, but I kept putting off actually buying book 3 because they had it at the library. And then suddenly it wasn't available anymore, and I haven't seen it in color since.

Not to my knowledge. Minibooks seem to be all the rage right now, so you can get them all (just about) in mini b/w graphic novels. I was sad to have passed up on the full color ones, too, but I'll sure they'll return eventually. Certainly before the 'movie comes out'.

I don't think you're a dork for having the temporary desire to get a Fianna glyph tattoo. I've played with the idea of being utterly insane and having Jen Delyth's 'Morrigan' tatooed, likely on my lower back, because of Megan. :P

And if you know that particular design, it is INSANE.
