Taiko is love.

Big Japanese drum. Big sticks. Loudy McLoudness. Oh, I'm in love.

It's very therapeutic, the noise. When I hit things with my sword the sound I hear is ting. (Well, usually. Every now and then what happens is a long, pained silence, and then a voice saying "Okay, let's try that again...") Ting is nice, don't get me wrong.

When I hit the drum, though, I hear BOMP. Flick of the wrist, another BOMP.

Some men have size issues. I think I have volume issues.

Nah! You don't have size issues. To each their own I say.

Taiko is love.
Deffinatly.
There was an encampment with a whole group of Taiko drummers at Pennsic one year. I was walking by and I was just pulled in by the sound...and the folks were nice enough to let me in too! There used to be Taiko drums at KRF. On a quiet day, I could here the entire show from my booth. And they were clear across site at the Tiger stage...Wow

We're fortunate enough to have an excellent taiko company, Portland Taiko, in our area -- and they also offer workshops and classes. I'm planning to get in on the next one, a little over a month from now.

I can hardly wait!

I've had occasion to choreograph fights to taiko before, and it's a wonderful soundtrack to have!

But *ting* will always be my #1... ;^)

I wish I could find more taiko music. I've loved taiko since I first heard it in a movie that I love, but most people hated. I'm always on the hunt for cd's, if you have any suggestions. :)

...you know size IS volume, just waving it more in people's faces, right...? Enjoy!

I once saw Kitaro in concert at Symphony Hall and he had these three humongous taiko at the back of the stage. Watching the guy play them during selections from Kitaro's score for "Heaven and Earth" was amazing. It was like a combination of martial arts exercises and ballet moves on crack.
