Jul. 11th, 2006 03:05 pmThunderstorms might be hitting Toronto as the circus festival starts. I have mixed feelings about this, much the way I have about people being eaten by bears...on the one hand, anyone getting hurt is a tragedy, but on the other hand, just like my brain happens to find the phrase "eaten by bears" inherently funny (I'd rank it an 8, 1 being 'eaten by wild dogs' and 10 being 'eaten by zombie baby'), the mental image of the headline "Clown on Stilts Struck by Lightning" ("Tin Man Suit 'probably bad idea', says EMT") is just making my afternoon.
In this post's installment of 'weird shit I've noticed', the Shell station on the interstate is selling 'animal paw' gloves. They're actually not bad--tiger or bear, thick leathery pads on the palms and plastic claws at the fingertips--but when you look closer you notice that what you get for your $12.95 is ONE glove.
And every glove in the store is a rightie.
What were they thinking? Apart from people driving crosscountry going "Oh man, how am I going to put together this midway-through-a-weretiger-transformation costume?", who would buy this? Are there other gas stations that have nothing but left-handed gloves?

Date: 2006-07-11 08:30 pm (UTC)Lightning struck a small car today. Forty-seven clowns escaped with only minor injuries.
In a related story, Lightning did not strike the Mummenschanz. They just made it appear that way, using post-it notes and silly-putty.
