aka the least-erotic Fun With Latex post you'll probably read this year.

It turns out there's a knack to shaving your hand, and I don't quite have it.

After spending my lunch hour on Friday experimenting with painting various gloves, I decided to go with [livejournal.com profile] moominmolly's idea and use liquid latex and silver shimmer. It was...a learning experience. The shaving didn't seem too bad at the time; it took a few days for the little scabs to form, and if there were only one or two cuts instead of, um, 14, I'd feel pretty good about that part of the night. (D says it looks like my fist somehow got in a bar fight without using my knuckles).

The white latex I got seemed very watery so I put on one or two layers too many, and there's nothing quite like the experience of standing in a hotel mens room flapping your latex-covered hand and muttering "Dry faster! Dry faster!!" to make you wonder about how you're spending your life...but all that changed when I put the silver powder on, because oh WOW that worked well. I'm in love with that powder.

The LARP went really well (that's a whole other post), and when we were done I just peeled the latex off like a glove. The scent of it lingered through four handwashings and the ride home and made me wonder if a skunk had hit my car...but still, on the whole, the hand worked out much better than it had any right to! Go latex!

I'd recommend a cream depilatory next time (they come with little bladeless 'razors' now to scrape the hair off closely and easily), or waxing if you're brave and want it to last

Indeed - the depilatories can work better for those not used to shaving non-face body parts. Just be warned that if you leave them on too long, you will feel the joy of a chemical burn ;)

Glad the latex and shimmer powder worked well for you - it's really the best thing to do!

Oh dear, you shaved you hand? Get ready for the itchy feeling as the hair grows back :S.

This whole scene should have been filmed :D.

Latex. It has so many fun uses...

If you think shaving your hand was interesting... I have been painted from neck to ankles in latex several times... that's an experience.

Oh yay, I was hoping you had an LJ! :)

I'm very glad we got so many chances to interact--you're an excellent RPer *and* dancer!

It's a damn shame the Duke of Ash was lame, because you'd have made a formitable dancer! I must admit that you represented the two characters so differently, that I didn't initially recognize that you were the same person!
