Feb. 20th, 2003 10:32 amIs it coincidence that when my parents leave for Florida for a month for the first time in their lives, the area gets a record amount of snow?
They sent me a pic yesterday. It's so unpleasant when parents smirk.
I had a fun lunch with my friend Yani, a local artist. This is our relationship: Yani will get an idea, usually very basic, and ask me what I think. I (often with the help of a double mocha at the coffeeshop where we meet) will get neuron-sparks and start brainstorming ideas that get more and more complicated. (Deb jokes that she should come to our get-togethers dressed as an accountant and keep track of how much my notions would balloon the budget). Then she goes away, uses 1/10th of the odd things I've pointed out, and everyone's happy.
Am I a thinktank?
Her latest idea is that instead of primarily marketing her performance character, The Snow Queen, as a roving performer at events, she should just create a play called "The Adventures of the Snow Queen" and let people come to her. She's made elaborate plans for the set, the venue, even the advertising brochure...what she hasn't gotten, so much, is an actual play.
Well, okay, she has an outline. "The Snow Queen lives in a castle. She has a magic ring. Some crows steal it."
She also thinks that a clever marketing ploy would involve going around to local elementary schools, performing *part* of the play for the kids, and saying "Now if you want to see how it ends, come to." I tried to be gently discouraging while my inside voice screamed "Are you insane? You wouldn't reach the parking lot alive!" I hope it worked.
