Vacation Week! Vacation Week! Week between semesters when the upturned flower of free time meets the buzzing bee of the tail-end of summer! Or something like that.

So far, these are the only things I definitely have planned:
*catsit for morninghood for a couple days
*watch the last 4 episodes of 'Avatar'
*THE WIRE, SEASON FIVE WOOT WOOT WOOT
*Do about a gazillion dogwalks
*Get one of those el cheapo bus tickets and spend a day wandering around NYC
*buy a basketball


One of Those Things Is Not Like the Others. Didja notice? And while I'm both a strong believer in Spontaneous Fun *and* a subscriber to the 'New Yorker', a few tips about places to go while I'm there wouldn't be unwelcome. Restaurants? Shows? Troll Markets?

I heartily recommend megabus.com. Their tickets top out at $10 and they go directly to Penn Station with no stops. But go buy your ticket ASAP because they usually sell out.

My tip to you about NYC is to pass up the Chinatown buses. They're just not worth it. The last two times I went there, I used BoltBus, which was only a couple of bucks more expensive, didn't roll over or catch fire at any point, and offered decent seats with power outlets and free WiFi.

Also, I thought "buy a basketball" was the Odd Thing Out. However, with NYC: MoCCA, Doughnut Plant, and Brooklyn Superhero Supplies. (I've never been to the last one but it's a front for 826NYC.)
