I'll write a personal post someday, I will. It's not that I meant to turn my LJ into an ongoing game of 'Spot the Loony'. But when you're in a target-rich environment...well...

There's a news story sweeping Canada that's got such a clear case of good vs. evil that I totally hear Thurle Ravenscroft singing about Grinches whenever I think of it.

On one side:
* A psycho neighbor
* The town council

On the other:

*Sam, a 3-year-old with cerebral palsy
*His best friend in the world, a miniature pony named Emily.

Mmhmm, guess which side I'm on. Just guess.

The story's here: http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/toronto/archive/2008/11/26/town-threatens-to-evict-disabled-boy-s-pony.aspx

In short:

Sam rides Emily as part of his physical therapy regimen. They love each other. Psycho neighbor, bored with calling the police on Sam's family for backyard campfires they had permits for, called in a complaint about the pony's smell even though he lives next to a cattle farm. The town agreed with the neighbor citing zoning laws and--and this is where they go from lunkheaded bureaucrats to mustache-twirling movie villains--letting Sam's mom know that if she wants to appeal it'll cost $800 to even appear before the Committee of Adjustment, and $345 to circulate their application for an exception.

That's Caledon, Ontario, folks. Keep it in mind when you're planning your next vacation.
