May. 1st, 2003 01:42 pmHappy Beltane, everybody!
Last night D came to meet me after work for a long walk along the river, and then catching 'Bend it Like Beckham' over at the Kendall. Great movie, very funny, must now get the soundtrack, and it reconfirms the impression I got from 'Monsoon Wedding' that, if I'm ever to be involved in a wedding at some point in the future, there are worse models to follow than a Punjabi one.
(Partly because the visual of riding to the church on a horse while drummers and dancers frolic around us just beats a white limo all to hell).
Today the Chair took a group of us out to lunch. She retold the story of how Dr. Dre almost enrolled here (and only had to explain to *two* members of the table who he was. She's come a long way from the woman who was saying "And how do you spell that...?" while his bodyguards were securing the floor). And now we're back, and she's foisted on me a gift from one of her students, some ultra-ultra-dark Polish chocolate. (72% cocoa solids, folks--that's the key.)
