Isn't there a joke that starts: "a communist from Beijing who's a local accountant, a lesbian neuroscientist named George and a guy who looks a little like John Ritter (note to self: avoid checkered shirts until the hair is different!) get together to set things on fire..."?

Really, REALLY liking my spinning group. I got guided through the whole lighting and spinning process last night. Fire is...woo. I wasn't prepared for the contrails filling up my vision, or the way you feel enclosed by the fire in a little warm bubble. And when the fuel starts to die and you're just spinning little blue flames, the way twirling makes the flame peaks looks as regular and spiky as a saw blade.

The canny reader might be wondering how much actual *moving* I did while I was trying to absorb all this, and the answer is very little. Not that, when faced with a choice between diving into an experience or staying to one side trying to absorb it all, I tend to skew towards 'observer' status or anything. Oh no.

Fire...Fire..hehehe. I am still in search of my favorite fire tool. which fuels are you using? (http://www.mythic-fire.com/fuels.html) Let me NOT recommend sterno-not because of danger but because nobody can see it.

Oh yeah, and wait until the happy part where you try not to turn your car into a fuel/air bomb because you're carrying all your tools and fuel.

We brought both kerosene and white gas. The poi I borrowed were soaked, I discovered later, with white gas (a larger, brighter fireball). The crisped hairs on my forearms suggest that I go with the kerosene next time.

I told folks at the spin about your fire swords, and there was much drooling. :) We might soon be meeting a hula hoop artiste from NH who's learning something called fire hooping, which sounds like something I'm *years* away from trying.

We use a combination of 99% parafin and white gas. The parafin lasts longer and the white gas helps it to ignite and be brighter.

Woohoo! congrats on your first burn. Mmm so addicting so very very addicting. Though I guess I have to say that two years later my desperate need to burn has waned somewhat. Not that I was ever as insane as Graeme who would spin in the rain for a chance to perform fire for people. Sheesh. I'm a more sensible cat...

I wanna Fire jump rope...Hee. The swords are just...odd. they look cool but you can't make hard contact because fuel splatters
