Noreascon, the World SF Convention, has broken me.

At first, when I found out it was coming to Boston, I just looked at the ticket price, laughed and laughed, and tossed the flyer away.

Then I found out Terry Pratchett was going to be the guest of honor, and the laughter died. But it was still too expensive.

But now I find out that, in TP's honor, they're BUILDING ANKH-MORPORK, and are currently recruiting actors to be characters.

Hear that crumbling sound? That was my willpower. I'd pay that ticket price just to see the Librarian costume.

To top it off, I've been having fun trying to cast people I know as Discworld characters. Paul S. as Ridcully or Colon? Aaron as Nobby? [livejournal.com profile] empheliath as Angua? Cliff as Vimes *maybe*, but he's not seedy enough...Cliff with a horrible hangover, maybe.

is there a place people can audition for this? I've never read the books, but I think it'd be sweet.

Their website, www.noreascon.org -- there's a link on the main page to http://www.noreascon.org/exhibits/AnkhMorpork.html , with info.

Paul S definitely as Colon. He's got the perfect red round shiny face of one of nature's seargeants.

And are we talking about the pre-wedding Vimes, or the post-wedding Vimes?

Brian... why aren't you auditioning? If you were an actor in this, I would /have/ to shell out the buckage to see it. Whether you were in the Librarian costume or not. It's a media-based Ren Faire, dude!

/I/ want Vimes. Or Vetinari. But since appearances are against me, maybe I could be Mrs. Palm, or one of the Agony Aunts. :)

The only one I read more than once was the Wyrd Sisters, which I loved more for the footnotes and Macbethian references than anything else... although I do remember something about a tough female city guard who fell in love with a bouncer at a whorehouse. Is that him or something else?

*squints thoughtfully* Unless you read an alternate universe's Night Watch, that's definitely something else. :)

Okay - probably an unrelated short story I mentally rolled in there. :)

SNUH!

She-who-shall-not-be-mentioned has corrupted me in such ways that I am now drawn towards anything with the word Ankh. and Death. Anky Deathness. Mmmmm Tasty.

That, and TP just rawks.

I really should read discworld. I've been meaning to, you know. I just haven't gotten around to it. Really. I mean it. Honest. Hey, stop hitting me. I mean it! Why would I lie?! Ouch! I'm gonna tell!!!!!

Mooommmmmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OH NO.

Now I have to go, too, especially if you're going to be in it. Audition, Brian, Audition!

If only I was forty years older, I'd make a lovely Granny Weatherwax. In about twenty years, I'll be a splendid Nanny Ogg.

Even if I never actually made good on my threat to slip in the "special ingredients" to the food I served the gaming group, just to see what would happen. The recipe for the Chocolate Delight in that cookbook wasn't nearly as good as it could have been, so I just tinkered a little.

I want to go and see Ankh-Morpork! Oh, dear. Oh, dear.

For those who haven't checked yet: Full membership for all four days (til July) is $180. They haven't decided price on daily passes, but I bet they'll be about $40 a day.

Yeah. It's na$$$ty. And they haven't put a schedule up for people to see what sort of events there are.
