My Favorite Time of Year...
Oct. 28th, 2002 08:45 amExcept for impending winter, and early darkness, and all that....
Halloween, Halloween, whee!
Friday night at the Castle; I spent it down in the dark dungeon cell again, being the Wrongly Caged Doctor. It seemed like it was Two For One Drink Night over at the nursing home---I've never seen so many white-haired drunks lurch through.
Some numbers: 1 tourist so scared she fell down on her butt; 4 kids taken off the property by the cops (for being jerks, destroying property, and rattling 'Cage Lady' s outfit trying to get her trained rats to attack her. Quelle morones.), one performer passing out after not getting enough oxygen inside her costume.
Saturday D and I actually were organized enough to get costumes together and party! D went through about 20 costume ideas that morning, including a geisha, Zhaan from Farscape, Gertrude Stein, a zombie and a Cirque du Soleil performer---eventually she got shades and a black coat to wear over her clown gear and decided on 'an undercover clown'. ("I'm inclownito!") I did her makeup (discovering a little late that most of my makeup brushes were left behind at the NERO site, argh!), got on my gothgear (yay, lace!) and headed down to GoodieHouse for drinking, debauchery, and an educational experience on why a voodoo doll costume is great in theory, but not well-designed for a crowded dance floor.
Pics to come!

Date: 2002-10-28 06:05 am (UTC)Have any exciting plans for Halloween night??
Re:
Date: 2002-10-28 07:32 am (UTC)Depending on my voice and the weather, it might be a good night to take an outdoor shift as one of the Klowns or Doomed Villagers...or I might want the security of a solid cell door in front of me. :P

Date: 2002-10-28 06:47 am (UTC)I plan to work from 3:00 to 11:30 with eight psychologically and behaviorally disturbed children who have overdosed on candy, been over-stimulated by three separate halloween activities, visited with their disfunctional families or felt abandoned while watching other kids visit with their families, and each individually been convinced that every other child has gotten more candy, praise, and attention than they have, while my coworkers all express distress that all their careful plans have failed to produce harmony and universal enjoyment. Oh! And don't forget the one lone anorexic girl who will be smiling politely at everyone giving her candy, and trying not to get clobbered in passing by the psychotics.
I never used to believe it, but they were right! Halloween *can* be scary!
Voodoo doll costume...? With...pins? How bizarrely self-destructive. I do not think that I have ever seen you in lace, Oaken. Must fix this.
What precisely are your visiting hours, as the wrongly caged doctor?

Date: 2002-10-28 07:40 am (UTC)My next two shifts are Halloween night and that Friday, 11/1...I might not be playing the doctor (I can't do it two days in a row or Bad Things will happen to my throat), but I won't be hard to spot. And it sounds like you might need a break from the *really* horrific stuff. :)
