BROOKFIELD, Mass. (AP) State police said a Southbridge man allegedly stole his father's Social Security number and charged more than $5,000 in phone-sex calls over the past year and a half.
Sven A. Martin, 34, faces fraud and larceny charges filed by state police Thursday after discussions with Verizon. Martin will be summoned to court to face the charges at a date yet to be determined.
Martin's father Dennis J. Martin of Cookson, Okla. reported the crime to police in August.
''He had received a $5,456 bill from a collection agency and said his identity was stolen,'' said state police Lt. Alfred Lussier of the Brookfield barracks. ''He suspected it was his son, who had done this before.''
On Oct. 20, after police tried to contact the younger Martin, he arrived at the state police barracks in Brookfield.
''He walked in and said he was a sex addict,'' said Lt. Lussier. ''He then told us he had set up a phone card in his father's name using his Social Security number and then he originally paid the first few phone bills.''
