Jun. 14th, 2004 03:37 pmContinuing the 'weekend of carnivores' theme: during the Sunday morning dogwalk I saw a bluejay swoop down on a mouse and attack it! I immediately ran over doing the 'Hey! Hey!' bugle that's the international call of folks trying to get between hunter and prey. (Its normally heard at all-you-can-eat buffets when there's only one slice of pie left.) Anyhow, in the flurry that followed I have no idea whether the jay managed to fly off with it or it managed to get away. Poor thing.
A bluejay! I guess I've just been ignorant: I associate them with eating their own weight in sunflower seeds and hogging the feeder, not with being predators.

I saw a bluejay swoop down on a mouse and attack it!
as:
I saw a bluejay swoop down on a MOOSE and attack it!
