I timed them this morning: between 9 and 9:30 WBUR, our local NPR station, had eight minutes of news, and spent the rest of their time talking about their fund drive.

Oh, and they're extending their fund drive an extra day.

Oh, and this is the first fundraiser they've had since NPR announced they're canning Bob Edwards to 'get a fresher sound'.

They're On My List this morning. Grrrrrrrr.

Why I stopped listening to BUR actually, and only do GBH radio on the morning ride to work and on Saturdays.....when they're not fundraising.

I've actually been annoyed with BUR since the Christopher Lydon thing back in 2000-2001.

Heh. I'm one of those heathens who thought Lydon was irritating and was more or less glad to see him go. But yeah, the fundraisers are out of control.

My local NPR had a fund-raiser the week after Bob Edwards got canned. They had a lot of trouble meeting their hourly goals, I'm glad to say. It's not quite fair for the loyal BE fans to take their feelings out on the local stations, but there's really no other way to get the message across, is there?

'BUR is no longer on my donation rounds after the Edwards fiasco and an annoyingly off-topic response to the letter I sent. And, yes, I didn't think I was imagining that the fundraisers are longer this time around.
