Okay, I've known for a few weeks that the film would debut this week. And I've been telling myself that I probably wouldn't be very visible in the crowd scenes, so I shouldn't get my hopes too high. But last night...seeing myself, and just the thrill of SEEING MY NAME SCROLLING ACROSS THE SCREEN IN THE CREDITS...wow. What a rush.

Excuse me?

Fever Pitch? Drew Barrywho?

Ohhhh, I see. No no, I'm talking about the OTHER Boston sports-oriented movie to debut (um, on DVD) this week: Kaiju Big Battel: Shocking Truth http://www.kaiju.com/mall/video/shockingtruth.htm

Let's compare the two, shall we?

FEVER PITCH vs. KAIJU BIG BATTEL

[livejournal.com profile] lordgrip as a Red Sox Fan vs. Me as a hammer-wielding zombie

Love scenes with Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon vs. A love triangle with three gigantic space insects

Toronto pretending to be Boston vs. A horse pasture pretending to be the Scottish Highlands

A cameo by Stephen King, as himself vs. A cameo by Boston Phoenix reporter Camille Dodero, as a Mona Lisa-wielding zombie

Tension when Red Sox and Yankees meet vs. Tension when zombies and space insect swarm meet

Tension nearly resolved with Yankees sweeping series vs. Tension nearly resolved when bagpipe music fells both sides

Conflict resumes when Red Sox perform miracles vs. Conflict resumes when insect exclaims "Wait! We have no ears!!", and swarm resumes attacking

Chance of sequel: tiny vs. Chance of sequel: VERY VERY HIGH

# of Braveheart parodies: 0 vs. # of Braveheart parodies: Entire scene is one.

Former SNL actor vs. Satanic Monkey

Okay, those last two are pretty synonymous. But the choice is clear, don't you think?

However, I lack the ability to fly at any altitude, let alone higher than an eagle. Rest assured the management will be notified about this forthwith.

I think kaiju was much better developed than pow,..
they hired professionals wrestlers to play the characters and used art students to buoild the costumes and write,..
that division gave them alot better control,..
but i think pow had a much deeper dynamic,..
we did soem shows and bits that were truly amazing.

But we were also driven into the groud by shit management,
and carried our fair share of utter crap performances,...
while kaiju was often tedious it never actually sucked,..
we always swung for the fences,.. which means we failed as often as succeeded.

So,.. is the flick on dvd or is it actually playing down there?

Well, POW performed much more regularly than Kaiju, too...more chance for burn-out, as well as truly stunning moments. And Kaiju has much less of a hometown presence--it's telling that they're having DVD launch parties in NYC and Philly, but nothing in the town where they actually MADE the darn thing.

It's a new DVD--my comic store got an early copy through Connections, but the official release date was yesterday. :)

The movie you were a zombie extra for was KAIJU????

The jealousy hurts me, man.

Ah, such is my checkered past--the *recent* movie I was a zombie extra for was an Emerson thingie. (That's the one that sucked donkey balls.) Kaiju's thing actually filmed almost two years ago; they've just been slow releasing it.

And as for jealousy, I'll just mention that the field where we filmed? Horse pasture. With recent evidence of horse presence all over, if you know what I mean.

Great arguments, but now I play THIS CARD: I am visible for almost 3 seconds in Fever Pitch. BAM!
