Here's what really happened: when I was putting laundry in the washing machine last night, I was holding a sock in one hand when I looked down and on the floor saw THE MATCHING SOCK! How long it had been there, I don't know. But it was fate. And so I monitored their progress together through the washing and drying, and now they've found a home together on my feet.
