So I'm reading this book by Will Ferguson, all about Canada and Canadian self-identity, interesting stuff, and then I get to this part:

Five Canadian soldiers were awarded Medals of Bravery for acts of valour while in Somalia. One of the soldiers--Corporal Joseph Charette of Gatineau, Quebec --single-handedly contained AND DISARMED a violent mob that was threatening a relief hospital. (blahblahblah other stuff).

Oho, sez I. This sounds like a heck of a story. I shall turn to the intarweb and find out more. Even if the Canadian military doesn't have a website like the U.S. Medal of Honor citations at http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/Moh1.htm*, it happened 12-16 years ago so there should be lots of references to it.

But as it turns out, not so much. Googling "joseph charette" + somalia? No results. "charette" + "medal of bravery"? No. "awarded medal of bravery" + somalia? Nothing. "joseph charette" + gastineau? "joseph charette" + quebec? 48 results, none of them relevant.

What am I missing here?

*If you go there, be sure to check out Tibor Rubin's story during the Korean War. Dang.
