You know it's going to be an interesting opening night when the stage manager pokes her head into the dressing room and says "Hey guys? We're going to have a Special Needs group in the audience tonight. And one of them's got Tourette's. Just FYI."

Woo.

As it turned out, they were great. They LOVED the show. I want to give them tickets to all our future shows. The gentleman with Tourette's made "muhh" noises once or twice, but hey, we have cast members who do that too.

So, one down. Yay. And phew.

What show are you in? Perhaps [livejournal.com profile] thorbol and I can make it. And it'd be great to be in touch with you again!

*G* That would be "The Scarecrow of Rumney Marsh". [livejournal.com profile] oakfellow plays Mr. Mipps, a pirate turned sexton who leads a double life and harbors many secrets. :^)

Our shows in Revere are over, but we're playing next weekend in Gloucester! Here's the info

I once had to give that warning to a cast. As it turned out, they were one of the most appreciative houses we ever had. But, you have to give your cast a heads-up because you never know how the group will react.

Break a leg!!

In high school, we gave a reader's theatre/mime/audience participation show at a school for kids with various challenges. They were one of the best audiences we ever had, taking part enthusiastically in the machine mime and the decision play (where we'd build to a juncture and ask which way things should go). At the end of the show, they gave us each a bag of candy. The seven of us piled into Paul's VW bug, and I held up my bag. "You guys realize what this means?" I said. "We just got paid! We're PROFESSIONALS!"
