We're currently in a Motel 6 in Piscataway, NJ. We're here because it's a halfway point between our house and D's parents and accepts pets; the other folks in the lobby are checking in because, apparently, you can pay in cash (unlike "that pieceashit Holiday Inn up the street", which requires a major credit card).

Long ride. Deb, and I can't blame her, kept wanting to be impulsive. "Hey, the ocean! Get off at this exit and we'll walk Toby along the beach!" "You know what would be fun? Walking Toby in Central Park!" (We settled for a park on a steep hillside in the Bronx. Toby was unimpressed.)

On the other hand, cross-country driving cranks my Virgo dial to 11: spontaneous side-trips are fine AS LONG AS THEY'RE PLANNED OUT A WEEK IN ADVANCE. As a passenger, nothing sends a chill down my spine like hearing "Ugh, the interstate's clogged. Get out the map and find us an alternate route." I swear, Moses must've said that to Aaron right after they crossed the Red Sea and started heading Israel-wards.

Must shower and hydrate, and start to feel human again. Ugh.

I too, being Virgo, understand where you're coming from, though, I have the mixed(?) blessing of having scorpio as my moon and ascendant sign, which makes such moments of spontenaity bearable without the total freakout.

Piscataway?? Run! Run! Or, well, at least, don't need to go to a hospital. Absolutely do not go to a hospital in Piscataway. Drag yourself to the next large town if necessary.
