The dog just got so upset at the arrival of the mailman that he fell off the back of the couch.

Into the basil plant.

Which collapsed the entire plant stand onto the floor, with Toby on top.

He's in the kitchen now giving me a sheepish look. Or maybe it's a look of distress because of how much he smells like pesto.

We've pondered this. He barks at other things, don't get me wrong--passing dogs, mostly, the occasional squirrel on the fence--but it's the mailman (and his dreaded cousin, The UPS Guy) who not only doesn't keep going down the sidewalk (as is right and proper) but who actually Comes Up the Steps Every Day! And he Rattles Our Door!! It's truly an affront to all that is right and proper.
