Have I mentioned that I'm falling in love with lastfm.com? It's the site where you type in the name of a musician, and then they first play a song from that musician, and then start playing what they consider to be similar artists.

It's a wee bit insane sometimes ("You like Kate Bush! Therefore you must like Madonna! And Blondie!"), but they've got a big catalog: I plugged in Yoko Kanno a week ago and spent three days listening to Japanese film music.

What REALLY sold me is when I discovered they have comedy, too. Oh my god. This morning I plugged in "Eddie Izzard", and it's taken me from Billy Connolly to an excerpt from the LP version of 'Life of Brian'. Yum yum yum.

Yahoo! Music does the same thing. A lot of times I don't like their reccomendations.

I've used pandora, which is basically the same thing...but they don't seem to have a lot of the music I like. They also don't do musicals

I could swear pandora played musicals for me. What I like abouht them is they explain why the song was picked

Pandora has artists who have performed in musicals but, I can never get actual showtune recordings. I know Liza Minelli, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Lea DeLaria are all on Pandora. Maybe they will expand if we keep requesting things like My Fair Lady and Chicago?
