Question for the WoW players out there: what would the equipment of a level 70 character (a Night Elf Rogue, if that helps) be like, if you had to describe it in strictly layman terms?

Like say, hypothetically, that a character in a Jekyll/Hyde story is a gamer who develops the power to turn into his character. And, being unscrupulous and kind of a jerk, he decides to raid a research lab. How badly could things go?

In other, possibly-related news, I'm doing Nanowrimo again this year.

I'm not quite sure I understand. If you mean how powerful would he be? Perhaps the best way to get a feel for it is to compare a naked 70 rogue to a clothed one?

And just to be nitpicky, there is a huge difference between a "fresh" 70s equpiment and one who has been raiding/pvping a while. I'd say almost as much difference as a 65 is to a fresh 70.

In layman's terms - it's armor, but cooler. Each piece does something, as well as fulfilling its function. Most things will do more than one thing. So it's a hat, but it also adds to your agility. It's a dagger, it makes you stronger, wiser, and healthier, but it also has a chance to boost your speed. Some of the items may have gems associated with them, which add to the effects - so the dagger may also make it easier to hit things, or heal you when you hit things.

Hope that helps!

Daggers as weapons. But, big absurd looking ones.
Leather as armor.
2 prominent rings
2 big “trinkets”
Everything purple. (It doesn’t display as purple in the game, but objects are color rated by power. Grey bad, green OK, blue good, purple very good, orange you won’t get, red probably doesn’t really exist.)

Ohhhh....good answers! I went one level of layman, but didn't get to this level.

To add to this - the leather armor breaks down as: head piece, chest, shoulders, legs, feet, wrists, hands. There's may be a non-armor shirt under the chest piece. There may also be a non-armor tabard if the character has a guild or faction affiliation they feel like advertising.

Rogues can dual-wield, so the character may have two absurdly large daggers, or a dagger in the main (right) hand and some other weapon in the other, or a dagger and some orb-y thing. No shield possible, I believe.

I think nelf rogues can use range (I don't have a rogue). If so, he'll have a bow of some kind.

While he can use range (and may have a weapon in the ranged slot just for the extra things it does) he really won't, though. Rogues aren't good at range, and their abilities are about sneaking up on things and smacking them at close range by surprise.

And, if they're 70 with good stat boosts, you won't see them anyhow. They'll be stealth all the time. Drop out of it to stun and kill you, then fade away again.
They'll be able to distract others by throwing flash powder. They'll have several different types of poison that does everything from effect spell casting to kill.
Once an hour they can teleport home.
They can keep a mount in their backpack.

Speaking of backpacks - they'll have five, each of which can hold a really astonishing amount of stuff.

Keeping the mount - is it actually in the backpack? I'm a pally, so mine is a summon. Always wondered how other classes do it...

Yeah, it stays in one of the bags. Doesn't have to be the backpack, but often is.
I've got a pally too. But, I got him a regular mount anyhow.

Oh - mounts. If he's a 70, he may have a flying mount.

Mine's not 70 but you make cools sounds when you use "special powers" and those powers take a while to "recharge." Also, the game system, as you know, only lets you use certain weapons for certain things and you may think
"Cool, I can backstab!" when you forgot to switch, and you actually have a sword-which won't do backstab. Aaaaaand, if your enemy is near your level, they will detect you 'stealthed' so now, so much for sneaking up for that extra backstab. :-P

And tougher things can pound on you with ease so if you *didn't* get in and do that damage...you are schrod.

Perrin actually runs a supah-rogue so I'll point out this post

I'm not saying who has this character, but it is a level 70 night elf rogue.

Disproportionately large to the body. Big in such a way that it makes it seem like the weight and unwieldiness would pull the user over to the ground, yet it doesn't. It's as if it all sorta floats around the body rather than rests upon it.

My warrior is 69, but last night he swam in lava. In Lava. I think that no mundane thing could harm this man.
