Thank you everyone, for your kind thoughts and good wishes. :)

Deb goes in tomorrow at 10, and the surgery should start around noon. This morning at 8 we went in for the pre-surgery visit. They took an ECG, talked us through what to expect, and had us look over their info sheet for any mistakes. Oh, were there ever mistakes. We corrected the spots where they'd spelled our names wrong, wrote in our correct area code (they'd put in 000)...

...and then we got to the part where they'd written down PRIMARY LANGUAGE: NEPALI

Tell you what, I was almost tempted to leave it in, just to see what would happen.

Speaking of resisting temptation, they also asked Deb at one point if she had any religious or cultural traditions she needed them to follow in the operating room. She was good and told them no; I'm already designing the brand new cultural traditions of Northern New England Neo-Shinto Revivalism so that if I'm ever asked this question I'll be ready. (So far it involves taiko drumming, [livejournal.com profile] godswraith and [livejournal.com profile] whaleomelette portraying Ben Franklin and Captain Hook ((possibly as conjoined twins)), and the great ritual blessing by Mungor the White-Bellied Totem Duck. Cover that, Blue Cross.)

I'll be thinking of you both, and I so hope everything goes well.

In the meantime, this:

Needs to be Metaquoted.

I was actually going to Metaquote this! Stop stealing my thunder, unknown person!

(BTW, since it's a locked post, though, it might be a good idea to the OP's permission.)

Sorry. Next time, I swear, it's all you.

Bri? Will you stop feeding me truffles?

Oh, I'm just glad that SOMEONE quoted him. :-D

I've quoted him two or three times before, so it's probably better if someone else jumps in occasionally and spreads the love for [livejournal.com profile] oakenguy. But I also know that not getting permission from the OP that you're quoting if it's a locked post is a bannable offense on Metaquotes, so just wanted to prevent your post from suddenly disappearing. METAQUOTES: SRZ BZNS!

i know. Bri's never minded before, though. :)

It'll be our little secret...

and if you tell anybody...

Permission granted. No cutting! No cutting!

Funny you should mention truffles, too...but that's a whole nother post.

nom nom nom

I helped make some truffles this weekend. I made some brigadeiros (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brigadeiro) as well, which turned out wonderfully.

We should swap. *nodnod*

>.<

That's actually pretty AWFUL that they got it that far wrong. I'd be nervous about the hospital, messing up the patient records that badly.

Don't forget the having to do the traditional Morris dance every 15 minutes in the OR, with bells and whacking sticks over the unconscious patient, in order to encourage healing and to drive out the evil spirits.

You are so evil. If you ever have to have surgery...

I would be unconscious. But I'm certain the nurses would find it a hoot.

Here's hoping the surgery goes okay. I'll be thinking of you both. But before she goes under, she should learn how to say Thank You in Nepali.
