Arisia was last weekend, and I should post about it before it all gets stale in my brain.

I'll start out by noting that there are both good and bad parts to living within walking distance of the convention. Good in that I don't have to worry about parking or finding a hotel room; bad in that once I've trudged my way home through the cold for whatever reason, I'm HOME. I know that for a lot of folks reading this, attending a con in 8-hour chunks is sacrilege.

Saturday was a day for donating. I donated blood at the bloodmobile, donated some skin cells to the bone marrow registry, donated the question "Any thoughts on 'Tarot'?" to the "Misogyny in Comic Books" panel, donated my arm to lean on when an elderly woman dozed off and fell out of her chair in the "Continuity in Comic Books: When do you Just Give Up?" panel, and donated an hour of my life to "Repo: the Genetic Opera", the movie that answers the question "What do you get when you combine the hapless, clueless, virginal but OMG SO SPESHUL heroine from 'Twilight' with the Grand Guignol-done-cheap tawdriness of 'Bloodsucking Freaks' and then add in music so bad you think you're listening to a special all-heavy-metal edition of Eurovision?" (On top of all that, Paris Hilton survives through the entire movie. Talk about squicking out your audience.) And then I scooted home to donate my ability to drink multiple Thai iced teas to [livejournal.com profile] etiger4's "TENURE, I HAZ IT" dinner.

Sunday I performed as part of the Red Shift radio show, which had a very excellent audience and had two people ([livejournal.com profile] derspatchel as writer, [livejournal.com profile] audioboy as Master of Sound) perform miracles considering the short turnover time we had. I also like to think of Sunday as the Day of [livejournal.com profile] joyeous, since most of it was spent blithely traipsing from one of her performances to another. It was amazing, frankly. She was part of the shadowcast for Dr. Horrible at noon, performed as the Red Shift villain at 3, played Willow in the Buffy Singalong at 6, saved some baby kangaroos from a forest fire at 9, and was Willow again for the R-rated Buffy at midnight.

After all that, I slept. A LOT.

Aww, thank you so much. :-)

And sadly, instead of saving baby kangaroos, at 9:00 I was watching Repo! for the SECOND time that weekend. It kind of grew on me. Like some sort of fungus.

Well, were there any thoughts on 'Tarot'? Seriously, I'd love to hear them.

Actually, love is too strong a word.

I am curious to hear them.

Heh. "Even by the standards of comic book porn, this is some of the lousiest stuff I've ever seen in my life," was the general feeling.

Apparently there were a number of people in the room who'd been hearing the phrase "You have to get out of here! Your VAGINA is HAUNTED!" around the internet, but had no idea it came from 'Tarot'. So we got to spread some knowledge.

Y'know, I'm glad I saw Repo, so I can say I saw it and all. And a few of the musical bits were rather catchy, though they were the less operatic bits. And hey, loved the eye makeup. :)

In talking to a semi diverse group of friends this weekend I can say that the *squee* factor over Red Shift was the most pleasantly surprising thing. You guys are getting a bit of a fan base out there :)

I am also curious to hear about thoughts on Tarot...

Tarot? Well, I'm glad it exists, in much the way I'm glad 'The Eye of Argon' and 'Two Girls, One Cup' exist...it's utterly horrible, but the reactions it inspires are hilarious.

What about the people who use it as a tool for meditation?

I can never be glad two girls one cup exists...I just can't.

People use a comic book about a sorceress who can't keep her clothes on as a tool for meditation??
