I've gotten sooo bad at posting! Let's try to summarize my weekend:

++ 3 day weekend thanks to snow day, yay!

- Spent two of those days sick, with the nasal drip/congestion/stuffy head ick that's been floating around. I think I'm just about over it, and thank goodness; if used tissues were nickels, we could buy out Citibank.

--It felt for a while like my body was matching the internet, as [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily went down with all the grace and dignity of a hippopotamus being pulled into a tar pit by some Cthulhoid terror. There's been so much wank from EVERY side, that I reached a point about 12 hours into it where I had to stop following links and limit reading comments to places like [livejournal.com profile] foresthouse's blog and mightygodking.com, where sanity still prevails.

I always thought of [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily the way I thought of HBO in the month when my cable company accidentally let me have it even though I was on basic cable: it was a wonderful luxury that allowed me to see things I wouldn't otherwise have seen, but I always knew the forces of Law would take it away someday.

(One key difference, of course, is that when my HBO was taken away there weren't immediately posts on the internet titled "Brian's HBO is gone. FUCK HIM." That's, um, special.)

+ Things are falling into place for Intercon, yay. I laid out my costumes yesterday and took note of the bits I still need (spirit gum remover, makeup remover, cold cream, a good base makeup to blend into my bald cap, maybe a better red foam nose since it'll have to stay on my face for 4 hours); now as long as I keep to my goal this week of memorizing 5 jokes a day and don't lose my lab coat, I'm pretty set.

+/- Last week I got luncheoned and plaqued for being here at my job 10 years. Ten frelling years. A quarter of my life. And on the one hand, I'm damn lucky--I have great bosses, job security, I'm good at what I do--and on the other hand, this was supposed to be an interim thing while I wrote the Great Urban Fantasy Novel, you know? Undergrads I interacted with are now faculty here! Oy. I need to get a move on, before I start reading Updike because he's relevant to my life. :P

So that's where I currently am: stuffy-nosed, looking at a 3-day week, mourning the loss of a fun online community and hearing little rumbles from the shackled crate in my basement marked 'Midlife Crisis'.

Also, I'd love a root beer.

So, how are you?

Midlife is only a crisis if you let it get you.
Academia where *everyone* wants to be whether they recognize it or not.
(it really is the Good Ship Lollipop)

I've been better but the drugs make sure I don't care as much. :)

I woke up one morning and realize I wanted to watch CNBC, because it was relevant to my life.

... *weep*

Yeah, um, the people emailing PAD to tell him to DIAF are really not... full of the brain.

(Neither is PAD, but, er.)

Holy crap, I totally missed out on the scans_daily strikethrough!

*fierce googling*

Looks like there's backups from 2005-onward. And noscans_daily for now...

And scans_daily on insanejournal. I hate IJ, but if you want it badly, there it is.

Yay for the Con.
Hope you do share some photos/stories of geek escapades.
And root beer is very good. I think now I want one, too.

♥!

Ya know, a root beer sounds really good!

If you're ever near the Garment District, there's a theatrical make-up and costume store, there.

As for mid-life crises (sp), the first six, or seven, are the toughest.

*sigh*

I tried not to wank beyond the initial snark on my journal.

Oh, dude. The only thing you were guilty of was using hyperbole while stating a negative opinion about someone, with no idea they'd actually see it. The ol' Daffy Duck "He'th thtanding right behind me, ithn't he?" maneuver. And yes it sucks, and we know it sucks because EVERY SINGLE HUMAN BEING DOES IT, AND HAS IT DONE TO THEM.

And you acknowledged that mistake, apologized, and tried to make things good. Considering all the ways you've been mischaracterized and slandered across the 'net in the last five days, you've been soooooooo wank-free!

Thanks. When I first read your post, I thought "Oh, god, he hates me now."

I saw the hate directed at me and PAD over on F_W, and I saw the jab that MGK lobbed at me, and I know that [livejournal.com profile] grayarcadian hopes I get lynched if I ever show my face at a con and thinks I should be in jail, and I read the stuff over on CBR and Robot 6 and OH GOD, IS THERE MORE HATE?

I've avoided going to a lot of sites and comment boards because Stupid Makes My Brain Hurt, but with that caveat, and based not just on her post about you but on her last few months of posts, [livejournal.com profile] grayarcadian seems like one of one of the biggest idiots to come out of this whole thing. And that's after glancing at Kevin Church!
