I've gotten sooo bad at posting! Let's try to summarize my weekend:
++ 3 day weekend thanks to snow day, yay!
- Spent two of those days sick, with the nasal drip/congestion/stuffy head ick that's been floating around. I think I'm just about over it, and thank goodness; if used tissues were nickels, we could buy out Citibank.
--It felt for a while like my body was matching the internet, as
scans_daily went down with all the grace and dignity of a hippopotamus being pulled into a tar pit by some Cthulhoid terror. There's been so much wank from EVERY side, that I reached a point about 12 hours into it where I had to stop following links and limit reading comments to places like
foresthouse's blog and mightygodking.com, where sanity still prevails.
I always thought of
scans_daily the way I thought of HBO in the month when my cable company accidentally let me have it even though I was on basic cable: it was a wonderful luxury that allowed me to see things I wouldn't otherwise have seen, but I always knew the forces of Law would take it away someday.
(One key difference, of course, is that when my HBO was taken away there weren't immediately posts on the internet titled "Brian's HBO is gone. FUCK HIM." That's, um, special.)
+ Things are falling into place for Intercon, yay. I laid out my costumes yesterday and took note of the bits I still need (spirit gum remover, makeup remover, cold cream, a good base makeup to blend into my bald cap, maybe a better red foam nose since it'll have to stay on my face for 4 hours); now as long as I keep to my goal this week of memorizing 5 jokes a day and don't lose my lab coat, I'm pretty set.
+/- Last week I got luncheoned and plaqued for being here at my job 10 years. Ten frelling years. A quarter of my life. And on the one hand, I'm damn lucky--I have great bosses, job security, I'm good at what I do--and on the other hand, this was supposed to be an interim thing while I wrote the Great Urban Fantasy Novel, you know? Undergrads I interacted with are now faculty here! Oy. I need to get a move on, before I start reading Updike because he's relevant to my life. :P
So that's where I currently am: stuffy-nosed, looking at a 3-day week, mourning the loss of a fun online community and hearing little rumbles from the shackled crate in my basement marked 'Midlife Crisis'.
Also, I'd love a root beer.
So, how are you?

Date: 2009-03-04 02:03 am (UTC)If you're ever near the Garment District, there's a theatrical make-up and costume store, there.
As for mid-life crises (sp), the first six, or seven, are the toughest.
