Why I Never Get Things Done

FOREBRAIN: Okay, everything's quiet here. Now's the perfect time to open up that draft of the play and see if the idea I had last night actually...what are you doing?
HINDBRAIN: I'm looking up the lyrics to 'Jai Ho'!
FOREBRAIN: 'Jai Ho'. The 'Slumdog Millionaire' song.
HINDBRAIN: Mmhmm!
FOREBRAIN: Why do you suddenly want to know what the song's about?
HINDBRAIN: Huh? Psssht. A translation? I could care less about that. I need the lyrics so I can memorize them for karaoke!
FOREBRAIN:..................karaoke.
HINDBRAIN: Mmhmm!
FOREBRAIN: Okay, let's break down all the flaws here. First, can you even name the language the song is *in*?
HINDBRAIN: Doesn't matter, I'll learn it phonetically.
FOREBRAIN: Uh-HUH. Okay, let's try this: when was the last time you actually performed karaoke?
HINDBRAIN: Um............don't remember.
FOREBRAIN: Riiiiiight. What number did the year end in?
HINDBRAIN: Um. Five?
FOREBRAIN: Uh-huh. And where do we live?
HINDBRAIN: Boston.
FOREBRAIN: And how many Bollywood songs does your average Boston karaoke bar keep in its playlist?
HINDBRAIN: It's a very catchy tune!
FOREBRAIN: It's a duet!!
HINDBRAIN: It's a VERY CATCHY TUNE!!
FOREBRAIN: So let me sum up...you're wasting precious time and neuron-space to memorize a song in a language you don't speak so that IF you ever attend an event you go to every five years at best, IF they, despite all odds and logic, happen to have it available you will be able to sing PART of it.
HINDBRAIN: What's your point?
MIDBRAIN: Guys! Guys! If we did something with circus clowns who are also in the Mafia, we could title it "Cosa Red Nosetra"! Isn't that fantastic?
FOREBRAIN: I give up.

Date: 2009-07-08 02:44 pm (UTC)Forebrain: okay, we're up and at them, and it's only 7am! We should be able to knock a couple of those projects off the white board today.
Hindbrain: Do-de-do-do-do...
Forebrain: Hey, what are you... why are you opening Pogo.com?
Hindbrain: Well, today's Wednesday... The new weekly badge challenges come out today.
Forebrain: Those challenges that come out every week?
Hindbrain: Yup.
Forebrain: The ones that often involve playing games for HOURS on end...
Hindbrain: Yup.
Forebrain: Games you don't even LIKE to play?
Hindbrain: Yup.
Forebrain: And all to earn badges that... don't do anything?
Hindbrain: Hey! now, that's not entirely true. They sit in my badge album and look pretty, and if I want, I can use them to change my icons on the game site.
Forebrain: Have you ever done that? Actually used them to change the icon?
Hindbrain: Well... no... I like the icon like it is.
Forebrain: But you're still going to make me spend hours earning your badge by playing... what is it this week? Euchre?
Hindbrain: Pinochle. And yes.
Forebrain: I give up. I'm going to get coffee. Call me when you're done being an idiot.
Hindbrain: Don't wait up...

HINDBRAIN: Turn it off!
MIDBRAIN: Yeah, turn it off!
FOREBRAIN: *turns alarm off*
FOREBRAIN, MIDBRAIN, HINDBRAIN: *roll over and go back to sleep*
It's not really much of a conversation, per se.
And I suddenly imagined my brain as the Three Stooges (Shemp can be the amygdala or some other bit that no one cares about).

And I'd totally do Jai Ho with you at karaoke...
The pumped up Pussy Cat Dolls version, though. 'Cause that's how I roll.
