Last night was our last big fight practice before the show. I'm afraid I was a little loopy with caffeine for the first part of it--it didn't affect the combats, just the chatting in between bouts.

Samples:

(about to start fighting)
Me: You know what's really interesting? The muscles I use to type are the same muscles we use for swordfighting?
E: Really? I didn't know that. (lifts her sword)
Me: Yeah! Which means by the end of this, I'll be able to type really HARD!! (beat) Which isn't really a factor I need to worry about, I guess. (beat) Unless I get one of those old-fashioned manual typewriters.
E: Oooookay. Could we fight?

E (critiquing the end of our fight, where she dismantles me bit by bit): Did you just drop right onto your knees? Are they okay?
Me: Oh, I'm fine. My knees are extra-poofy.
(the odd thing is: they are! Even after practices where every other part of me aches, they're always fine. But I'm catching myself on my shield and distributing my weight differently anyhow).

It's fun to watch people in various stages of combining their choreography and acting. The trick seems to be to think of fights as reggae music, where the beat's always on the second and fourth notes: when you fight, the eye contact and pause is the first note, but the actual swing and steel-to-steel contact (i.e. the IMPORTANT bit) comes on 2 and 4. If you parry on the first beat, then you're rushing, anticipating, and sloppy.

And by "you" I mean me, of course. Hrmph.

TWO DAYS.

And depending on how much sleep the villains have had and who I'm walking with, the interactive stuff might be *very* random!

Sleep? You want to sleep this week? *maniacal laughter is heard from Harvard Square* Wanna help Mike & I move furniture on Thursday?

Um...er...I'd LOVE to, of course I will, I mean, you're friends, and friends do that for other friends. I'll just put that in my dateboo--Ow! My ankle!

*laugh* Yeah, I'm not looking too forward to it myself. But, it's a necessary evil, and all for a good cause. Mike insists it will be a piece of cake. I keep telling him he just thinks that because he's never moved furniture with me and my spaghetti arms before.
