If the wake of a fight leaves me feeling like a big storm's blown through, recovering from this cold is like having a tide go out. There's no sudden epiphany or drastic change, just recognizing landmarks and not being sure when, exactly, they were revealed. It's the little rock formation of "Hey, I'm breathing through my nose!", the kelp bed of "Ooo, I can climb stairs without dying", and the overturned ancient rowboat of "I can horribly abuse metaphors again!"

The recovery came just in time to help my friend Yani with today's project, the jazz-quartet-meets-living-statues-meet-rush hour commuters piece called 'Download' at South Station. It's happening again at evening rush hour; if you can, go see it. It's worth it just to watch the faces of folks getting off the trains or subway and spotting the action for the first time.

This morning I showed up at about 7 to help with the set-up, which meant assisting with the makeup and costumes, trying to make sure the musicians understood that each song had to be five minutes (which, I know, is painful--hell, it's cruel enough to make jazz musicians play a gig at 7:30 AM, but then to make them keep the improv down?), and just basically being Production Assistant. They looked great, as usual, and it's a particularly fun show this time around.

It does make me feel a bit like a bridesmaid, though. This is my fourth or fifth time PAing one of her Living Statue things. And we're friends, and we've helped each other out with other acting projects, and it's not like I even think I'd be a *good* statue....but it'd be nice to be asked.

I'm either shaking like a tree in hurricane wind or so cold that I'm not sure the plight of 3rd world nations could move me. It's never great to have fights :(

A positive thought-Hey, maybe you haven't been asked to be a statue because they think it might be below your skill level-just a thought.

Ooooo, that's a nice thought.

One I'm having trouble wrapping my brain around, and I'm going to be mouthing that phrase silently for the next few days and trying to slip it into conversations, but a really nice thought.

Hey, I saw them when I came through South Station this morning! I was there at about 8:00...I probably just missed you. Although, when I was there, one of the statues was being very un-statue-like. Very mobile.

Picture of the "installation" in this morning's Metro. Interesting.

I think they're afraid to ask you to be a statue because you would outshine them all, Oaken.
