This is one of the games being offered at Intercon-D:

>Humans vs. Monsters: Cow Day!
>by Mike Young
>The kingdom of Peternia has developed a unique way of dealing with criminals: dress them up like cows and send them to run through a forest full of hungry trolls and goblins. If they can get through the forest without being eaten, they have earned their freedom. This game recreates that fateful day.

In the immortal words of Mutant Enemy: *I* did that!! Or, rather, my frazzled dwarven ambassador-character's caffeine-addled early morning brain came up with the idea last year during the last HvsM larp!

I AM SO PROUD.

Edit: Oh, I missed the last line of the game description:

"This will be a live combat game. Some players must dress as cows."

I'm always jealous that the east coast seems to have such a variety of LARPing activities going on... The only similar thingI know of that we have on the west coast is *shudder* the Cam... and I guess you could stretch dressing up and acting in a persona to include SCA events but really... I guess we have Amtguard too but somehow the things you get to do sound like more fun. Hum. I really enjoyed the unique LARPs I got to play in when I was in VT for college...

I suppose as busy as I am it's debatable whether or not I'd actually get to go if there were such things out here though... But I can still heartily lament their lack right?

You've missed NEROWest? Not sure where on the west coast you are, but they run events in the San Francisco Bay area, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and occasionally San Luis Obispo, CA. Several of my friends are on plot and several more are active players, so I can recommend it. :)

I think we're just louder in New England. :0)

I know there are several live-combat/boffer groups on the West Coast. And SIL West does theatre-style LARPs. Shade's LARP List seems to be down right now. But the LARPA resources page has some pointers.

[I don't know any of these groups personally.]

Out of morbid curiosity...you didn't play in these unique LARPs at Marlboro College, did you?

Er... yes? Why is your curiosity morbid?

Not really morbid, just an over-used cliche.
So...which ones did you play there? Were they the ones James Pinkerton ran? Now I'm wondering if I know you...

Well, I only went there for a year and a half as my attempt to break the strangle hold the West Coast has on me was a failure. I played in one about an underwater city on the eve of its destruction, and another one um... a cyber punk one that I'm not remembering as much about. I made a bunch of prosthetic data jacks for people to wear for one of them... my memory of Marlboro is all a bit fuzzy since I blocked a lot of it.

In the cyberpunk one (ran by Chris Barney) you made me a data jack! I remember that...I can't remember your name, but I remember you putting a data jack on me...I think Meadow might have introduced us.
In the underwater city one, I played Most Holy, the leader of the city.
*starts humming It's a Small World*

Given that there were so few people at Marlboro it's hard to imagine that I'd be able to blank on people I actually interacted with, but I can't picture the person who played most holy, though I remember your part in the game. :( Yes deffinitely a small world though. My name is Amanda by the way, nice to Re-meet you.

Nice to re-meet you, too...
I wasn't a Marlboro student, just a friend of a bunch of folks up there. That may be why you're having a hard time remembering me. I was up there for random socialization and LARPs, but that's it.
