Fight rehearsal last night. My first found object fight! (Well, my first choreographed one. Which is to say, my first found object fight that doesn't involve a playground, Beanie Ryerson, and pants-ing.)

Very cool. None of the threatened livestock, which is probably a good thing--five July days backstage with a chicken is five days too many. But there are coils of rope, rolling pins, bags of laundry and brooms a'flyin. It makes me feel like Jackie Chan. (Except for, you know, the bits where he wins the fight. And the bits where he's really really good.)

Stupid but based in fact comment

Here's something you may not have thought of but...don't let anyone use the brooms for actual sweeping. You see they gather dust (D'uh you say) but if you start waving them around and clacking them together you will *fling* that dust-into you, into your opponent, into your audience. Ouchy.

You are welcome to email me if you want to hear about a fight involving brooms, laundry baskets, bloomers and a giant novelty bra. :) ,
