Toronto! Canadian city!
But the city don't know what the city is gettin'!
The creme de la creme of the clown world
In a show with everything but Yul Brynner!

Sorry for the filking, sorry for the squeeing, but Toronto. Road Trip. TORONTO FESTIVAL OF CLOWNS (part of the 4th annual Toronto International Circus Festival, donchaknow). I've reserved the room at the hostel. It's really happening.

OMG, it's really happening. A city full of circus performers (well, okay, and the leatherfolks attending Folsom Fair North, and won't that be an interesting mix?), and one little Bostonian with a tailcoat and an oversized hat, right in the middle of it all.

I keep thinking of things that might go wrong. Not little things, either, things like "What if they search my car at the border and the previous owner of the car hid a big block of cocaine inside the wheel mount and the dogs find it and I get locked up as a smuggler?". Because I am insane. And freaking out. And it's still DAYS AND DAYS AWAY.

Wow ... that sounds like quite a time. I wonder how many people are attending BOTH events?

I'm just the hanger-on. T'lemur is the aerialist, professional pillow fighter and bondage porn model.

I think I'm in the wrong town.

Oh, don't be silly! South Paris has....well....it has you, and, well, there's my friend Jenn, and the sunsets are pretty...

Yeah, but very little in the way of circus *or* kinky leather-clad .. um, ... people.

I have espresso, though, so THAT'S good.

Hooray for you, and double points for rewriting a song from Chess, one of my favorites!

aw that is SO exciting! it would be terrifying to me, being surrounded by all those clowns, but you sound completely enthused. how fun!
don't worry about the cocaine either -- canadians are cool so they'd probably just ask you to give them enough for a couple of lines of the stuff or something. ; )

xox

Ha! The thing that really worries me is that apparently a lot of the clowns up there are 'bouffons', a term I had to google: they're sort of grotesque clowns who tackle taboo things. Which means a)they're the clowns even clowns are freaked out by, and b)that half-naked clown I saw a few years ago at the Mobius show, 'helping out' the Dresden Dolls by wandering around drooling cheese doodles, with b.o. so bad I could literally smell her from five feet away? Might have just been Canadian.

We are just down the road from the Distillery. We should try and hook up.

We totally should! To not see each other would be a crime. :)

My very bitter jealousy would like you to know- that I hate you- as only one bitterly jealous person can... and oh yes, have a really good time. You bastard.

We can definitely agree that it would be much, much more fun if you were there too, can't we? OMG, the hijinx that would ensue...

:) Man... who'd have ever thought a reminder of the Black Plague would become so darn popular?!? Frickin' clowns!

Don't think of them as clowns! Think of them as circus performers who are often very pale. :)

(Or, in NERO-speak, the Stone Elves no one talks about).

LOL.

Oh, what I would do to see a Stone elf at the circus!

That's funny -I was just in Toronto! (I didn't notice any clowns.) Have you been before?

I was in Toronto too! And I'm jealous because there will be clowns! And the Fringe Festival! And Summerlicious! And Segway tours! Argh!

The only bad thing that could happen is if you get incredibly bored driving the interstate in upstate NY. But nothing will go wrong and you'll have a great time and I'll be jealous and sad.

Oh, I promise there'll be misadventures that'll curl your toes and make you glad you stayed south of the border! Did you know that Vancouver clowns and Montreal clowns loathe each other, and actually have a Bloods/Crips-style blood feud going? The only thing they agree on is that the only clown lower than a rodeo clown is an American.

(Well, it MIGHT be true).

((I didn't know you liked clowns! We should talk. :) ))

..does this mean there'll be a zombie clown parade in Toronto? Argh!

(I don't know much about clowns, honestly, but I saw an mesmerizing PBS show about Bill Irwin which makes me want to see more clowns like that. But yes, we should talk! =)

Zomg, I LOVE BILL IRWIN!! I got to meet him briefly once, and take a workshop of his when he came to my school. Much, much Bill Irwin love.

I have the tape of him performing 'The Regard of Flight', the broadway show he won the Genius Grant for. We should have a viewing party sometime!

Oh! Did you notice a lot of public fountains? I'm baffled and impressed by a city with so many fountains that they have a public art event celebrating them!

I was there once, really really briefly, as part of a drive with my family out to Ohio. Does it count if we never got out of the car, and all I really remember is my Dad yelling a lot and helpful pedestrians waving jazz-hands style and shouting "One way! One way!" ?

I didn't notice many public fountains, actually! Perhaps I was in the wrong part of the city. It IS a big city, much larger than Boston.

A city full of clowns? Exciting and, yet, quite nightmarish. Sounds like it'll be a lot of fun, though.

Oh, the stories you'll be able to tell your children and grandchildren.

...probably the same stories that would get you arrested should you ever try to tell them to other people's children. :)
