Back from the CT Faire, where I had a blast thanks in part to a large number of Pastimes folks running around, celebrating birthdays, clogging I-90 and going on to flummox the staff of Ruby Tuesdays.

At one point today I managed to fulfill a quest I've attempted but never managed in the last four or five faires I've attended--I bought a Scotch Egg. I'm very sad to report that it contains neither scotch nor Scotsmen. I mean, sure, the vendors will tell you it's a hardboiled egg coated in sausage and breadcrumbs and deep-fried...but how much harder could it be to boil an egg, coat it in sausage and breadcrumbs, deep-fry it, and make a little voice say "Crivens!" when you open it up?

So besides the lack of Scotsmen inside, how was the Scotch Egg?

Well, it was challenging. It was very tough on the outside. So if I'd had a knife...and a plate a little less flimsy than the paper one I had...and the plate hadn't been balanced on my lap...and it wasn't so windy...it probably would've been very good. And I wouldn't've wound up wearing so much of it.

Well, there's a blessing, at least; you didn't wind up wearing tiny Scotsmen! (Or maybe you would have enjoyed that. Hmm.)

That's what a Scotch egg is? Aww... Now I wish I'd gotten one...

And had some scotch with it...

Perhaps if Rowdy Roddy Piper offered you a Scotch egg?

Just to pretend there's a brilliant tie-in to the Scotch Egg debacle here... if I asked quite randomly if you could be up for, say, inventing a confection of a ghost 'with Walter Denton's head on it!' (WD being gawky teen), could you imagine embarking on such an enterprise?? Being excited by it?
For a certain Halloween show, even? Could it be tempting, moreso than a Scotch Egg, say?? *blink, blink slinkily*

So I found a place in Salem that sells Scotch Eggs! With plate, knife and fork no less! It's the Old Spot on Essex St. They were delicious, so I must insist you come to Salem for some cider and Scotch Eggs!

So there!

OK, now how could we get Terry Pratchett to write a bit with a Nac Mac Feegle saying "Crivens!" as he emerges from a Scotch Egg?

P.S. Did you see that the convention community moved? It's at [livejournal.com profile] nadwcon2009 now. Also, email "info@nadwcon.org" if you want to be on the newsletter list. :)
