The Cause: Boredom

The Experiment: Purchase one (1) American-made Twix bar, and one (1) Twix bar from Dublin, Ireland. Compare.

Preliminary Notes: American product lists 21 ingredients; Irish product lists 14. (Irish ingredients are listed in nine different languages, don't include nutritional information). Notable that American product lists chocolate as an ingredient in its milk chocolate; Irish product contains milk fat.

First look: Irish product has a stronger scent, more uneven pattern, possibly indicative of thicker chocolate. Same color, same size.

Taste: Biggest difference in the caramel--American product has less cookie, more caramel, and the caramel is sweeter and gummier than the Irish. Heavy aftertaste, some stickymouth. Irish cookie very pleasant, slightly buttery-tasting

Conclusion: I need a hobby.

nope.

When I was in the UK, I became utterly addicted to Twix. Passionately addicted. I get back to Canada and make the mistake of thinking that all Twix are created equal, only to find that the North American Twix bars are nowhere near as tasty.

Conclusion: you're not alone.

You have way, WAY too much time on your hands.

You should come over to my house to play.

Where are you finding Irish candy, and why did you pick something so banal as a Twix?

I should, but the meanies at work frown on me scooting off to Roxbury!

The convenience store next door sells a whole array of Irish candy (mmmm, Lion Bars...), but most of them don't have counterparts here in the states. By trying the Twix (Twixes? Twux? Twoos?), I got to start out on a fairly even playing field.

Next, try comparing American Guinness with that found in the typical Irish, Scottish, or English pub....
oh. my. dog.

And Coca-Cola tastes weird in England. Off, somehow. It's apparently all to do with the water.
